Q. What is the Corporate Employee Survey (CES)?
   
A.

It is a government-wide survey of permanent and non-permanent1 employees. Every employee who participates is asked to answer common questions about the work environment and supports available to them. Some departments may also ask department-specific questions.

   
Q. Why is the survey being done?
   
A.

The survey is an opportunity for employees to provide feedback that is used to improve employee supports and provide a quality work environment.

   
Q. What are the results used for?
   
A. A summary of the results is used to measure progress on government-wide human resource management strategies. Survey results are used by departments to identify areas of strength and possible areas for improvement, and for sharing best practices with other public sector organizations.
   
Q. When will the survey take place?
   
A. The survey starts October 7th and will run until mid-November.
   
Q. Will I be contacted?
   
A. If you are a full-time or part-time employee as of September 13, 2013, you will be contacted. New in 2013, permanent AND non-permanent1 employees across the GoA will be invited to participate.
   
Q. When will I be contacted?
   
A. The survey launches on October 7th, however it takes approximately ten business days for the survey to be sent to all employees across the GoA.
   
Q. How will I be contacted to participate in the survey?
   
A.

Ben Thieson, a Senior Research Analyst with the external research company Resinnova, will contact you by email to participate. It is also important to note that participation will only occur online; there will not be any follow-up phone calls.

   
Q. What will I be asked? 
   
A.

You will be asked to indicate your level of agreement on a number of questions. These questions relate to your experiences as a government employee, your job, and your work environment.

   
Q. Is participation mandatory? 
   
A.

Participation is voluntary. However, you are encouraged to share your views so improvements can be made to your workplace.

   
Q. How long does the survey take to complete? 
   
A. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
   
Q. Who will see my responses?
   
A.

All of your individual answers are anonymous. Resinnova, the external company hired to conduct the survey and tabulate the results, will compile only a summary of all the responses.

   
Q. When will I see the results?
   
A. Individual ministries determine the approach for sharing their results with staff. It is anticipated that the results will be posted on the CHR website in the spring of 2014.
   
Q. Is the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) aware of this survey?
   
A. Yes. The AUPE is notified of the survey prior to it taking place.
