Locations for Counselling Supports for Employees in Fort McMurray

All staff are encouraged to access supports as needed to ensure they maintain their own good health and well-being. Below are options to access support in Fort McMurray.


Shepell Counselling Office

Please note that Shepell’s regular counselling office in Fort McMurray has reopened. People who wish to schedule an appointment need to do so by calling the toll-free number, 1-800-268-5211. Please note there is no drop-in counselling at this location - appointments are required.


Fort McMurray Provincial Building, 9915 Franklin Avenue

EFAP Trauma Counsellors continue to be on-site on the main floor of the Fort McMurray Provincial Building to support all APS employees located in the Fort McMurray / Wood Buffalo region. No appointments are required, and the counsellors are available two days per week throughout December 2016 and January 2017 as follows:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays
10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Lynn Bryant Room: December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2016
Lynn Bryant Room: January 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and February 1, 2017
2nd Floor Meeting Room: January 31 only

Wildfire Health and Wellness Supports for Employees and Their Families

Your EFAP has resources and services available to help support Government of Alberta employees and their families following the Alberta wildfire evacuations and return to the community or to a different community.

You and your family members will likely continue to experience stress and anxiety related to this traumatic event. We would like to extend support to you during this difficult time as we all try to understand the impact of the situation and process these events. The support materials below include strategies for coping with reactions to stress and anxiety, as well as how to support others. www.workhealthlife.com also features additional information and tips on coping with traumatic events.

Supports for Supervisors/Managers


The EFAP is a confidential and voluntary support service available at no cost to all Government of Alberta employees and their immediate family members. The program helps individuals find solutions to all kinds of challenges at any age and stage of life. The services are delivered by Shepell.fgi, a leading provider of employee assistance programs across Canada.

Regardless of location in Alberta or Canada, you and eligible family members can receive support over the telephone, in person, online and through a variety of self-guided resources.   In addition, the EFAP offers:
