The ESRA Program is a health and wellness benefit available to all Government of Alberta (GoA) employees who may experience challenges with coordinating or accessing health and support services while at work or when recovering from an illness or injury.

The ESRA program:

  • Assists employees to access information on their own health, through health resources/services available in the community and through other GoA employer benefits.
  • Allows employees to confidentially discuss and receive advice on health-related conditions/issues.
  • Helps support employees during their recovery from illness or injury during their general illness period.

  • Assists employees return to work safely following illness or injury.

Accessing ESRA program services is voluntary.  Employees determine when to contact ESRA, as well as the type and amount of assistance they need.

ESRA assistance may only require answers to question(s) on how to access community or other GoA benefits/services.  In other cases, ongoing assistance may be required in locating treatment, scheduling diagnostic testing, or returning to work following a medical leave of absence.

Effective April 1, 2009, ESRA program services are provided by LifeMark Health, one of the largest Canadian-owned health management companies. Their mission is to deliver the highest standard in medical, rehabilitative, disability management, education and wellness services.

Examples of issues/inquiries LifeMark Health can help with include (but are not limited to):

  • Who do I call if I need a medical device?  Who can help pay for wheel chairs, walkers, etc.?
  • I just had surgery; how do I access physiotherapy?  Which is the best facility to treat my condition?
  • I was just released from hospital and need help setting up home care assistance.
  • My doctor said that I need to see a specialist but the wait list is 6 months.  Can ESRA help me?
  • I think I may have an addiction – how can I get help?
  • My family doctor retired and I can’t find another in my area taking patients.
  • My doctor said I can go back to work but need lighter duties.  I’m nervous to approach my supervisor – can someone help me?
  • My doctor says I am clinically depressed.  I don’t want to miss work but I am having trouble concentrating and getting things done.

The main goal of the ESRA program is to provide you
with the help you need, when you need it.
